Is this organization called the “New Mexico National Guard Association” (NMNGA) or the “National Guard Association of New Mexico” (NGANM)? Historically, when this organization was incorporated on 10 May 1989, it was called THE NEW MEXICO NATIONAL GUARD ASSOCIATION. Thus, the correct historic acronym is the NMNGA. But, as you can see in the website name above, we have used both over the years. Take a look at our Certificate of Incorporation.

Our Association founders are all listed on this document. The three primary signatories were LTC Kenneth Perry, CW4 Peter B. Quintana, and COL (ret) H.L. Bill Rives. You’ll also find the unit reps from that timeframe, along with some basic by-laws.

However, this Association has been around much longer than 1989. In the coming months, I hope to capture some of that history here, on this website, for our common edification. Let us neither deny, nor obliterate our past; let us define our future!

― George Orwell

“Study the past if you would define the future.”
